Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education celebrated Rabindrajayanti on May 13, the last working day before the summer vacations, and even the sweltering heat could not mar the students’ spirit.
The primary school students were given a sapling each and asked to nurture them during their vacations while the senior students performed on stage. Sayonti Mukherjee of Class XII sang a Rabindrasangeet and students staged a play Govinda’s Disciple based on Tagore’s work, showing how materialistic riches pale in comparison to spiritual knowledge. “We didn’t get much time to practice for the play as classes were in full flow but we did our best,” said the young actors.
A musical followed featuring songs like Mahabishye mahakashey and Akashbhora surjatara. The voiceover for this musical came from backstage while the actors lip-synced before the audience.
The teachers chipped in with an audio drama titled Nishkriti and the closing song. “It was great that we could celebrate Rabindrajayanti despite this scorching heat. It only goes to show how incomplete our lives would be without the works of Tagore,” said the principal Debleena Bhattacharya.
