Durgapur firm raided

Durgapur, April 30: Police raided the Durgapur house and offices of Axes Group director Katyayan Bhattacharyya after a court ordered that a complaint of cheating against him be treated as an FIR, but could not find him.

Eight employees, including a manager and an accountant, were arrested and some documents seized.

Manager relief

Burdwan: A manager and 10 employees of a deposit-mobilising company detained by police in Burdwan had to be released on Tuesday after alleged pressure from investors.

Although Burdwan police said branch manager Pradip Mukherjee and the 10 other employees of Aspen Projects India Ltd were released on “humanitarian grounds”, the investors claimed that if the 11 were arrested and the office sealed, they would not get their money back.

Yechury on bill

New Delhi: CPM leader Sitaram Yechury has said the new bill the state government introduced in the Assembly to rein in sham companies will give such firms time to “relocate and re-settle their assets”.

Pradip claim

New Delhi: State Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya on Tuesday said Union finance minister P. Chidambaram had assured him of a probe by the Enforcement Directorate into the default scam involving Saradha. Bhattacharya said he had called up the minister with a request for an impartial investigation.

Cong rally

Tamluk: Around 500 Congress workers on Tuesday took out a rally in East Midnapore’s Tamluk demanding a government probe into the activities of nearly 200 companies allegedly involved in fund-raising in the district.

Two thrashed

Chinsurah: Employees of deposit-mobilising company Goldmine Agro Agency in Chinsurah allegedly beat up an investor who had gone to its office on Tuesday to demand her money back. In Barasat, the managing director of Sun Heaven Agro Ltd, another such company, was assaulted by investors.

Agent FIR

Suri: A Saradha agent in Birbhum who claimed to have invested Rs 5 lakh has lodged a police complaint of cheating against Sudipta Sen and other directors of the group. Police said a case had been started.
