OUR BUREAU Kalimpong Published 12.08.05, 12:00 AM

Darjeeling/ Kalimpong, Aug. 12: With the GNLF determined to foil all public meetings of the People?s Democratic Front (PDF), the Opposition parties in the Hills have discovered new ways to disseminate its views on recent political developments.

The PDF members in Kalimpong have dubbed numerous CDs and have also made audio tapes that are making their way to the rural areas. Madan Tamang, the chairman of the anti-Ghisingh coalition, said: ?The GNLF leaders have stopped cable operators from telecasting our Darjeeling speeches in Kalimpong. However, our supporters have found out new ways and are distributing CDs and audio cassettes to the people.?

Human psychology seems to have defeated the GNLF astuteness, as people are scrambling to get hold of the ?banned CDs?.

?This is human psychology. This explains why all banned books are good-sellers,? added Tamang. The PDF has made it clear that its will try its best to avoid confrontation at this moment. ?Violence will not be to our advantage. The people will be scared and the GNLF will take advantage of such an atmosphere,? he added.

With the PDF unable to carry forth its Operation Exposure ? even the public meeting scheduled in Pedong had to be cancelled today ? the Opposition is currently working on a publication that is expected to be out soon.

Some of the questions to be raised by the PDF in its literature include:

lWe are not against Sixth Schedule, but is the GNLF sincere? If they have made a draft of the Sixth Schedule, they should make it available to the public

lWhy is the GNLF always raising false hopes? During the Gorkhaland agitation 1,200 lives were sacrificed for a separate state and Subash Ghisingh promised swimming pools on every rooftop. This time, too, Ghisingh is backing off after raising the hopes of the Nepali-speaking people of Siliguri and the Dooars

lGhisingh had promised to include all the Hill communities in the Scheduled Tribes category. What has become of this demand?

lIn 1999, a superficial ?autonomous? word was inserted in the nomenclature of the DGHC. Will the Sixth Schedule prove to be another superficial thing?

lWhy is the GNLF shying away from a greater debate and branding the PDF as parties opposed to the Sixth Schedule, when in reality the Opposition has welcomed the special provision.
