Jalpaiguri to host fish festival

Apart from the dishes made of popular fishes, special items of hilsa and chital will also be available at the fest

Fish merchants in the town have decided to organise a three-day food festival here from January 24 with platters full of variety of fishes.

The Jalpaiguri Wholesale Fish Merchants’ Association has decided to hold the Jalpaiguri Fish Trade Food Festival-2020 at Milan Sangha ground here to celebrate its diamond jubilee. “We will present a special dish called ‘fish thali’ at the festival. It will have a plate of biryani and as many as 10 different varieties of fish,” said Biswajit Mitra, the secretary of the association.

According to the organisers, the dish will cost Rs 300.

Other fish recipes which will be available at the fest are ‘katal kalia’, ‘pabda paturi’, ‘ol chingri’ and ‘mung dal with tangra mach’.

Apart from the dishes made of popular fishes, special items of hilsa and chital will also be available at the fest.

During the fest, there will be stalls selling home appliances, electronic goods, processed food items, cosmetic jewelleries and handicrafts.

Mohan Bose, the chairman of the Jalpaiguri municipality, has welcomed the initiative. “This is perhaps the first time that such a fest will be held here. We are expecting a descent footfall at the event,” said Bose.
