Kohima, Feb. 23: Hectic preparations are on to celebrate Sekrenyi, the festival of sanctification, on February 25 and 26 at Kohima public ground and Touphema tourist village.

Sekrenyi, which is the premier festival of the Angamis, is being organised by the Angami Public Organisation and supported by several other organisations and state government. Governor Nikhil Kumar will be present on the occasion.

The organisers of the festival are expecting thousands of people from all over Nagaland to congregate at the public ground to celebrate Sekrenyi.

During the two-day celebrations, young Naga entrepreneurs will display their products and showcase their talents in different fields. The celebrations will be marked by community feasts and cultural display.

The organisation has requested people to maintain peace during the Sekrenyi celebrations and has warned that severe action would be taken against those who try to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere.

Some organisations, including the Angami Youth Organisation and Anagmi Students’ Union, will perform community policing during the celebrations.

Sekrenyi will also be celebrated at Touphema tourist village, around 35km from Kohima on February 26. Chief minister Neiphiu Rio along with his cabinet ministers, parliamentary secretaries and top government officials will attend the celebrations. A number of foreign and domestic tourists are expected to take part in the celebrations at Kohima and Touphema.

The main Sekrenyi is often celebrated on February 25. This 10-day festival of Sekrenyi is also called Phousnyi by the Angamis.
