June 8: The Guwahati-Howrah Saraighat Express scheduled to leave Guwahati at 12.45pm tomorrow has been rescheduled to leave at 4pm, according to a communique issued by the NFR.

New doctors

New members were elected to the junior doctors’ association of GMCH for the 2011-12 session on Tuesday. Kumar Partha Pratim, Kaushik Bhuyan and Raktim Pratim Tamuli have been elected the president, general secretary and spokesperson of the newly formed executive body of the association.


The Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School has collaborated with two international teachers from the US to promote cultural and educational exchange programmes among students of the school. The two teachers, Sandra Chando and Kenena Palfrey, have arrived in the city under the Teachers’ Achievement and Excellence Programme of the US State Department and International Research and Exchange programme.


A leading troupe of artistes led by Amita Dutta Mukherjee and Uday Shankar staged Bhanusingher Padavali at Rabindra Bhawan on Wednesday. The programme was organised by Rotary Club of Guwahati as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Radindranath Tagore.

Thief held

A thief, identified as Sagar Das, 20, from Dhubri was caught red handed when he tried to snatch a bag full of cash from a businessman on Jail Road on Wednesday.


The body of a 17-year-old girl identified as Jamuna Devi was found hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling fan at her residence at Amgaon in the Panikhaiti area on Tuesday night. Police said the girl appeared to have committed suicide and sent the body for autopsy.


Newsibition, a visual exhibition of the 75 years of history of the Reserve Bank of India will be held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at Panjabari from June 20 to 29. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Assam governor J.B. Patnaik.
