Dibrugarh, June 30: Dibrugarh town was waterlogged today following a downpour yesterday night.

Thana Charali - the busy lifeline of the town, Milannagar, Grahambazar, Khalihamari, KP Road, Padum Nagar, Amolapatty, Naliapool, Police Reserve were inundated because of the flash flood triggered by the rain, which affected life and threw traffic into disarray.

Similar scenes were witnessed in important roads like RKB Road, KC Gogoi Road and PN Road.

"We had a harrowing experience in last month's floods with water entering our house and we had to shift to another place,'' said Biswajit Phukan, a resident of Dibrugarh.

"Every year we have to face the same problem because of poor drainage system. The Dibrugarh Municipality Board has failed miserably to clean the drains of the town and this is main reason for the waterlogging,'' said an owner of a medical shop, Siddhart Sur Roy.

The district administration or the municipal board has not initiated any measure to mitigate the havoc caused by waterlogging.

Every year, Police Reserve has to face the wrath of the floods and the personnel have to move to other places with their family. "Police Reserve is a low-lying area and every year water enters our house and we have to shift elsewhere,'' said a police official, who lives in his quarters in the area.

"Before the Assembly elections, the BJP used floods as one of their main poll planks and attacked the Congress leadership on that ground. But after coming to power they are not working to solve the problem,'' said a teacher, Ranjit Das.

In the meantime, the district administration has started the process of cleaning the main Dibrugarh Town Protection drain.
