Dibrugarh, Aug. 20: Chabua Coaching Centre came back from a goal down to overpower Dibrugarh Railway by 3-1 goals in the second Umesh Gogoi memorial football competition at Lahoal rural stadium here today.

The first half of the match saw both teams toil hard but none could break the deadlock. The match was interestingly poised, though, with the teams going on the offensive at regular intervals.

The scoreline remained 0-0 at half time.

Spectators at the stadium had to wait till the 57th minute of the second half for striker Khirod Borgohain of Dibrugarh Railway to strike first blood with a spectacular shot.

Chabua, however, took just four minutes to bring up the equaliser through medio Chandra Gogoi. The gates opened further for Chabua in the 66th minute when striker Hardeep Das executed one to perfection to give his team a 2-1 lead.

A minute later, it was right back Guddhial Gosain’s turn to strike as he found the net without much effort to seal the match for Chabua. Two players from either team were shown yellow cards.

Tamulbari will take on Duliajan Academy on Friday.

The tournament is being organised by Lahoal Sports Association under the aegis of Assam Football Association. Altogether twelve teams are vying for top honours in the tournament.

Selection trial

The Guwahati Sports Association will organise a three-day open trial-cum-selection camp at Latasil playground from August 23 for under-15 boys to select the Guwahati district team for the under-15 All Assam inter-district cricket tournament.
