A student of a city school was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Kidwaipuri area on Thursday.

Police are suspecting suicide but no note confirming it was found.

The boy, Rahul Kumar Singh, 14, was a student of BD Public School at Buddha Colony. He used to live with his brother, Bittu (10), and father Sanjay Singh at a rented house at P&T Colony in Kidwaipuri under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station.

An officer of Kotwali police station told The Telegraph: “The family hails from Chhapra, where Rahul’s mother lives. He and Bittu used to live with their father and study in Patna.”

Sanjay also rented the room opposite to their home to store utensils used in his catering business.

On Wednesday night, Rahul went to the storage room, telling his father that he needed solitude to study. “He took his books and went to the room after having dinner around 9pm. He had told his father that he would be studying till late night in the room used for storing utensils. He never came back,” the officer said.

He added: “When Sanjay and Bittu woke up, they found Rahul missing. They didn’t panic as they thought he was sleeping in the storage room. After a while, Bittu went to the room and started to knock on the door to wake up Rahul. When he did not open the door, Bittu called their father. Sanjay called the neighbours for help, who advised him to inform the police. The door was broke open at 11am and Rahul was found hanging from the ceiling. No suicide note was found.”

The body has been sent for post-mortem and a team from Forensic Science Laboratory is assisting in the case. “We are treating it as a case of mystery death because no suicide note has been found. But it could be a suicide. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the time and cause of death,” said the officer.
