Verma keen on coaching career

Calcutta: Former Bengal batsman Ajay Verma announced his retirement from local cricket after his team Sporting Union lost to Dakshin Kalikata Sansad (DKS) in the P. Sen Trophy final by the spin of coin.

Verma, who played his last first-class match for Bengal in 1998, continued playing the CAB-organised tournaments till Friday.

Immediately after quitting, Verma applied for a coaching job with CAB. “I have applied for it… They (the CAB officials) asked me to apply,” he said.

Verma, who played 25 first-class matches scored 1263 runs.
