Dhaka: Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja is convinced that ‘The Blockbuster Event’, as the World T20 is being projected, will be won by one of the Big Three from the subcontinent.
“I expect either Sri Lanka, India or Pakistan to take the trophy... All three recently played in the Asia Cup and the conditions in Bangladesh haven’t changed. They have that advantage,” Ramiz told The Telegraph on Wednesday.
The Asia Cup was won by Sri Lanka, with Pakistan losing in the final. India fared poorly.
“T20 is such that you can’t predict... Any one from the three — Pakistan, India or Sri Lanka — could win... Flair, luck, guts... You name it and everything comes into play in this exciting format,” Ramiz added, during a brief interaction at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon.
Asked to name one player from each of Asia’s Big Three who could impact big, Ramiz chose “Kusal Perera, Virat Kohli, Saeed Ajmal.”
Perera, who is 23, has been heavily influenced by idol Sanath Jayasuriya, who is Sri Lanka’s chief selector. Besides being a deputy minister, that is.
