There’s bad news for East Bengal fans. Even before the season proper has begun, Joachim Abranches, a prized catch for the club this season, got injured during the ongoing pre-season conditioning camp at Kalyani.
It was learnt that Abranches hurt his hamstring early into the session on Tuesday and limped off the ground. Initial examination indicated that he has aggravated an old injury.
Police AC stunned Subrata Bhattacharya-coached Southern Samity 3-1 in a Calcutta Football League Premier Division match, played at the Kalyani Stadium, on Tuesday. In the other matches of the day, Kalighat Club got the better of Port Trust 2-0 at the Howrah Stadium, while Kalighat MS beat Army XI 2-1 at Barasat. Bhowanipore Club and Peerless SC played out a 1-1 draw.
Shankar Oraon and Aibor Khongjee were registered by Mohun Bagan for the upcoming season, at the IFA, on Tuesday. There was a tussle between United SC, Shankar’s previous club, and Bagan regarding the player last week. But things were sorted out after discussions.
Biswarup Dey filed his nomination for treasurer’s post with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on Tuesday, the last day of filing nominations. As no nominations were filed from the opposition camp, it can be said all those who are contesting the elections will be elected unopposed at the association’s annual general meeting (AGM), to be held on July 31.
