Balangir, March 16: Disheartened by the unusually long legal fight against the betrayal of her lover, an unwed mother cut her wrist vein in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate at Patnagarh last afternoon.
The woman was rushed to the Patnagarh sub-divisional headquarters hospital in a profusely bleeding state. Doctors in the hospital, however, managed to stop the bleeding.
Sources said that Rina Barik of Bileisathi village under Patnagarh police station had an affair with Debahari Suna of the same village. They allegedly entered into physical relationship with the man promising to marry her. Rina eventually became pregnant, while Debahari left the village in search of job.
Rina gave birth to a baby boy and when Debahari returned to village he had already married another woman. Rina objected to it and requested Debahari to accept her as his wife, but he didn’t pay heed to her request. With no alternative left, Rina lodged a complaint with Patnagarh police station. The police had registered a case under Sections 493, 417, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Debahari.
