Sambalpur, April 6: The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar) will shortly get an integrated sewerage.

"The tender for the project, estimated at Rs 7.6 crore, has already been floated," said public health executive engineer M.R. Nanda. The public health engineering department will execute the project.

A conventional sewage treatment plant capable of treating three million litres of sewage a day will be set up at the hospital complex. The old sewer lines will also be replaced.

The wastewater, generated from the medical college and hospital, will be released into public drain after treatment. "The quality of water discharged from the hospital will improve after it is treated. Though the water cannot be used for drinking purpose, it can be utilised in gardening and other chores," said Nanda. Many toilets and septic tanks in the 1,000-bed hospital are also in a sorry state.

Residents have welcomed the sewerage system overhaul initiative.
