Tourists on Wednesday bore the brunt of strike as many of them were stranded at the Sun Temple at Konark.Apart from national and foreign tourists (in picture), many local people, who had travelled from various parts of the state, were left high and dry. Many of them had come to Chandrabhaga to take a dip and offer prayers on the occasion of Magha Saptami. "I came here this morning from Nabarangpur and was supposed to go back by 5pm. But, I missed my bus because of the strike," said Kailash Bhuyan, a visitor.Business was also affected at various fashion exhibitions being hosted in the twin cities. "There was not a single customer throughout the day. Even in the evening, the footfall was low," said Subhas Meher, a weaver from Sambalpur at the National Handloom Expo at Exhibition Ground.Amid the strike hassles, the Magha Saptami Mela started on Wednesday in the foothills of the Khandagiri-Udayagiri hills. The sadhus from across the country take a dip in the Chandrabhaga. "It was a difficult affair for the sadhus on Wednesday as they had a lot of difficulty in travelling to Konark and coming back," said Manoj Sahu, a member of the organising team of the event.
