Tribal kids shine in Plus Two

KISS results

The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) posted an impressive performance by securing 100 per cent results in the Plus Two arts and commerce examinations. The highest scored was secured by students in both arts and commerce was 80 per cent. For the first time, students from five primitive tribes from both arts and commerce passed in the first division.
 
JEE success

Thirty-four students from DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, qualified the JEE (Advanced). Spandan Senapati topped for the school with an all-India rank of 191. Two students ranked with the top 500, five within the top 1,000, 16 within 5,000 and 26 within 10,000 respectively. Principal K.C. Satapathy congratulated the meritorious students.

Child labour

Childline, Berhampur, in association with the Indian Society for Rural Development and the Railway Child Help Desk, held a signature campaign at the station on World Day Against Child Labour. The campaign aimed to create awareness about the practice of child trafficking and child labour. Childline distributed leaflets and other publicity items at the station. People from all walks of life took part in the campaign and spoke against child labour and advocated its prevention.

Meritorious student

Sai International School student Malavika Ranjan cracked the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) with an all-India rank of 21. She was training hard for the integrated MA programme at IIT Madras. She set her dream high since childhood and ynlike most young students, Malvika chose to build a career in social work.

Young inventor

A Class-X student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Deogarh, has become the talk of town for his technical skills after he had developed a battery-operated bicycle. Anurag Pradhan developed the bicycle that runs up to 33 km/charge on a battery. The Class X student took a year to develop the cycle for Rs 15,000. The student was inspired by a battery-operated scooty to develop the cycle. The cycle also features an LED bulb and a horn. Anurag used two 12-volt batteries, 24-volt gear motor and 250-watt motor control to develop the cycle. The parts used in his two-wheeler were bought from Maharashtra.

Global rankers

Students from the twin cities made their parents proud by garnering international ranks in the SOF Olympiad examination in which millions of students from over 45,000 schools in 30 countries took part during 2017-18. A total of 66,039 students took part from Bhubaneswar and 21,047 from Cuttack. Bhavesh Patra, a Class-IV student of Mothers Public School, achieved International Rank 1 (Bhubaneswar) in the maths Olympiad. From Cuttack, Ansuman Abhijit Jena, a Class-I student of the St Xavier's Public School, bagged International Rank 1.
