Tito in four-day remand

The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha's crime branch of police on Friday took history-sheeter Sayed Usman Ali alias Tito in four-day remand to dig out evidence pertaining to his illegal financial transactions and crime records.

Kendrapara: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha's crime branch of police on Friday took history-sheeter Sayed Usman Ali alias Tito in four-day remand to dig out evidence pertaining to his illegal financial transactions and crime records.

The gangster, who ran crime syndicate across the state and has amassed wealth running to several crores of rupees, was earlier taken on a nine-day remand in two phases to probe into his network of organized crime.

The gangster was produced in the Kendrapara sub-divisional judicial magistrate's court after completion of nine-day remand.

Two Congress leaders - Sanjay Rout and Hijbul Rahman- from Kendrapara were quizzed on Friday for alleged link with Tito. Rahman is a former councillor, while Rout is the son of a former MLA.

Tito's spouse Benazir Bibi was also examined on Friday. The gangster accumulated movable and immovable assets are mostly in her name. She has a number of petrol pumps, financial deposits and other businesses in her name. An expensive car worth Rs 90 lakh has also been found in her name, according to STF officials.

The gangster has been booked for organized crimes, tender fixing, extortion and robbery. Case has also been registered against him for forcible occupation of prime highway side land near Kendrapara township.

The history-sheeter had demanded Rs 70 lakh extortion from a contractor who was engaged in Rs 7 crore worth projects in Aul and Pattamundai irrigation division. A separate case was also registered against him in this connection, STF officials added.
