Bhubaneswar, Aug. 20: Students of Berhampur University have appealed to the state government to set up a career guidance and counselling cell on the campus so that they could explore various career options and get professional counselling.
The students, in a memorandum to the minister of higher education, have also demanded smart classrooms and Wi-fi facilities on the campus.
“These are the minimum requirements for any university, and Berhampur University, being one of the premier institutes in the state, should have these basic facilities for its students. Internet is now a basic necessity of education and having Wi-fi is one of the essentials,” said Ananya Kumari, a student.
A higher education department official said all state universities, including Berhampur University, had been asked to submit their proposals regarding improving the Internet connectivity on their respective campuses within this month.
“All the universities of the state will be Wi-fi enabled and integrated with the ministry of human resource and development scheme, the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology for Internet connectivity. In the first phase, the academic departments, administrative wing, library and hostels will be covered under the Wi-fi network, and subsequently, the facilities will be extended to other areas of the varsity, said a senior official of the department.
