Journalists demonstrate against police excess in Bhubaneswar on Monday. A vernacular journalist and his colleague were allegedly assaulted by a traffic constable near PMG Square. Following the incident, a protest by journalists stalled traffic at AG Square. The incident took place when Sunit Mishra’s two-wheeler overstepped the zebra crossing. “The traffic cop abused me for overstepping. When I resisted, he took away the key to my vehicle. When I argued, he started assaulting me,” alleged Mishra. His colleague, Bijaylakshmi, alleged that the cop abused her as well. Both of them have lodged a complaint against the cop. The police personnel, however, alleged that Mishra pushed him. Deputy commissioner of police, Bhubaneswar, Satyabrata Bhoi said the police had launched an investigation.
