Sambalpur: Ainthapali police foiled a robbery attempt at Kainsir on Wednesday night and arrested four youths.
The police squad on night patrol received information that some criminals having arms and weapons were preparing for a dacoity in the area. The squad reached the spot, conducted raids and managed to apprehend four of them. But, one managed to escape. They seized one car, two knives, two iron rods, one lathi, pana, renchi and one sword from their possession. The accused belong to various areas of the town, the police said.
In another incident, acting on a tip-off, Hirakud police raided the Bhima Bhoi dhaba at Larpank and apprehended 15 persons, who were gambling. The police also seized Rs 1,81,535 in cash from their possession, along with three motorbikes, nine mobile phones and 104 playing cards.
Besides in a motor vehicle checking case near Sankarmath at Dhanupali, the police on Thursday detained a car for checking. It was found that two persons - Prakash Mohapatra of Birmaharajpur and Paramananda Guru of Sonepur - were allegedly transporting ganja of 10.4 grams in a bag. They were arrested under section 20(b) (11) (B)/29 of the NDPS Act, the police said.
