Bhubaneswar, June 11: Like the Council of Higher Secondary education, the Central Board of Secondary Education, too, has been overburdened by applications of verification, photocopies and re-evaluation “from Class XII students” across the state.

While last year, the number of applications filed was around 3,000, this year it went up to around 5,000.

“This could be just due to increase in the number of candidates who took the test,” said the board’s regional director A.S. Verma.

Last year, there were options of verification and photocopies, but from this year, the option of re-evaluation has been introduced.

While cases have reached from across 250 schools of the state, the major goof-up has been reported form the city-based St Xavier International School. Of the school’s total 260 students, who had taken the test, 220 failed.

The students, many of who have fetched good scores in JEE (Mains) and other entrance exams, are upset over the “erroneous” marks. Many of them secured single-digit marks in subjects such as physics and chemistry. Soon after the results were announced last week, angry students had visited the board office and staged demonstrations.

“We have explained the procedure to them. No one needs to come here. Everything is available online. If a student is eligible for more marks, he or she will get it. The money he spends on getting the re-evaluation done will be reimbursed,” said Verma.

The verification fee is Rs 300 per subject, while those for the scanned copies of answer books is Rs 700.

However, only those candidates who have applied for verification can apply for the scanned copies. Similarly, only students who have applied for scanned copies of answer sheets can apply for re-evaluation. The fee is Rs 100 per question and a maximum of 10 questions can be re-evaluated per subject, said Verma.
