Cuttack, March 4: Boarders of Ravenshaw University’s East Hostel, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past five days, called off their agitation today after talks with varsity officials.
The varsity officials assured the students that they would reconsider the suspension of four of their fellow boarders, who were allegedly involved in campus violence
This came after a delegation of students met vice-chancellor B.C. Tripathy and appealed that the two-year suspension order be revoked.
“In view of the tension on the campus, we have given an assurance to the students to take an appropriate decision soon,” said Tripathy.
He said the final decision on the quantum of punishment would be taken at a staff council meeting to be convened at the “right time”.
Withdrawing their agitation, the East Hostel boarders hailed the vice-chancellor’s decision. “I was under a lot of stress after the authorities decided to suspend me and three other students for two years. It was a harsh decision that could have ruined our career prospects. Now, I can hope for some relief,” said Priajit Rayguru, a boarder.
