Rail axe on cleaning supervisor

bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway authorities have suspended the cleaning supervisor of Konark Express after a Orissa High Court judge disembarked the train over foul smell of a dead rodent inside his compartment on November 3. Sources said a disciplinary action against the supervisor had been initiated, beginning with a chargesheet by the Khurda Road division authorities. The judge had got down from the train at Berhampur station after facing severe inconvenience because of the pungent smell inside the A1 coach.

Oil industry boom

bhubaneswar: Odisha will witness a surge in oil industries as more than 20 upcoming projects plan to set up theirs units in the state with an investment of Rs 86,000 crore, including the IOCL Marketing Terminal at Jharsuguda, IOCL Paradip-Haldia-Barauni crude pipeline, and the IOCL Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur LPG pipeline 

Man found dead

bhubaneswar: A person in his 40s was found in an unconscious condition at a bus stop near the regional census office here on Sunday morning. However, he was declared dead on arrival at Capital Hospital. Police are trying to ascertain his identity.

Naveen praise for players  

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the state players, who were a part of the Indian team, which won the Women’s Asia Cup Hockey, in Japan on Sunday. Patnaik congratulated the players on Twitter.

Vehicles on fire 

Bhubaneswar: Maoists allegedly torched ten vehicles, including four tractors, an excavators and four motorcycles, at Kalyansinghpur block in Rayagada district on Saturday night. According to reports, they set the vehicles on fire protesting against the ongoing Melkojoba-Niyamgiri road construction in Narengtola village. The Maoists also put up posters opposing the road construction. 

Forest raid

Baripada: A patrolling squad of Dukura forest range conducted a raid and seized a granite-laden truck on Sunday. However, the driver of the truck managed to flee, said range officer Batakrushna Padhi. The forest department swung into action after getting the information that granite was extracted in the forest range.

Man swept away in canal

kendrapada: A 65-year-old man was swept away in an irrigation canal water on Sunday after he slipped and fell into it at Indupur village. The missing person is yet to be traced. Search operation by fire brigade personnel has proved futile so far, police said.

Car catches fire

baripada: A Tata Indica bearing a Jharkhand registration number caught fire on Saturday night here. The fire fighters doused the flame and no one was injured. Though the exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire officials suspect a short circuit.

Woman run over

paradip: A 30-year-old woman was run over by a speeding lorry at Tarinigada junction, on the NH-5(A) on the outskirts of Paradip port town. The deceased has been identified as Lucky Parida, a native of Kujang. The tragic road accident triggered tension in the locality with agitated people blocking the highway. Traffic was disrupted for around an hour. The road block was later lifted with officials agreeing to extend monetary compensation to the accident victim's family, police said.

Dupe arrest

bhubaneswar: Manamunda police in Boudh on Sunday arrested a youth leader of the district Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha for allegedly duping the public through his company Go Life Trading Private Ltd. Police said that the accused, Narayan Karmi, allegedly collected investments from investors promising them to double the investment in three years. A case was lodged against the company as well as Karmi after he failed to return the money of the investors.

Maoist letter

Bhubaneswar:  Maoists, through a letter on Sunday, claimed the ration loot from a boat near Totapadar in the cut-off areas of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district last month was a protest against Andhra Police for arresting three innocent villagers from Andarapalli Panchayat in the district. The ration was being carried for 
BSF Jawans posted in the district.
