Sambalpur, June 30: Two girls, whose siblings alleged that their parents had sold them, got married and are settled in Madhya Pradesh, said police.

The girls have been brought to Sambalpur and were produced before the district child protection officer today. Later, their statements will be recorded in a court.

Puspa Saha, the eldest daughter of a couple, lodged a complaint at town police station that her father, Manbhola Naik, 45, and mother, Prabhasini Naik, 40, of Modipara had sold her two minor sisters, Jyoti Naik, 13, and Anjali Naik, 14, at Patria in Madhya Pradesh on June 27.

She had come to the police station with her younger brother, Sanatan Naik, 15, and paternal aunt, Hemalata Sani, 48. "Subsequently, the police had registered a case and sent a police team to MP," said additional superintendent of police S.K. Panigrahi.

A four-member police team had also gone to Madhya Pradesh to trace the two girls. Manbhola had also gone with the police team.

The police traced Jyoti at Pipargiachouda in the Bonda police limits in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh and interrogated her. During investigation, Jyoti denied that she had been sold. Rather the girl said she had got married to one Tikaram Lodi, 23, at a temple on June 12. Jyoti also said she was not a minor and claimed to be 19 years old.

Similarly, Anjali was traced at Suakar in the Gadabuta police limits in Sagar district. The police found that Anjali had got married with one Manoj Dubey, 30, on May 11. She, too, denied that her parents had sold her.Anjali said she was 20 years old and not a minor. "Both Jyoti and Anjali and their husbands have been brought to Sambalpur," said Panigrahi.

Though the two girls claimed that they were above the age of 18, preliminary investigation by the police had revealed that the two girls were minor.
