Bhubaneswar: The state sports department plans to install permanent closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at various locations at the Kalinga Sports Complex in the run up to the Men's Hockey World Cup scheduled in November.
The sports department has also asked the city police to submit their plan for additional entry and exit points to the stadium.
The decision to install the permanent CCTV cameras at the stadium was taken after police complained of bad quality footage of temporary ones installed during two international events - the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship and the eight-nation Men's Hockey World League Final - held last year.
"The footage quality of temporary CCTV cameras was too poor to identify anything. So, we have advised the sports department to come up with a permanent solution. Cameras will be also installed at other strategic locations at the sports complex," said a senior police officer.
Around 100 CCTV cameras were installed at the main stadium during the Asian Athletics Championship, while 50 were in actionduring the Hockey World League Final.
"Though nine entry and exit points are there at present, these are not adequate to handle crowd during the World Cup. So, we have advised the sports department to come up with two additional entry and exit points," said a police officer.
