Cuttack: Police nabbed another history-sheeter wanted in several cases, including bombing a van of the police control room (PCR), from Brahmanjharilo early on Tuesday. This is the second arrest in the PCR van bombing case in less than 30 hours.

Around 1am, Sadar police station inspector in charge Sudhansu Bhusan Jena received information that the criminal, Juga, was sitting near a cold storage at Brahmanjharilo with some live bombs. He was allegedly planning to hurl the bombs on the house of Alokendu Dash, who had earlier lodged a police complaint against him.

Acting on the tip-off, a special squad of the police station rushed to the spot and spotted Juga there around 1.30am.

As the police team approached towards Juga, he hurled two bombs at them. Fortunately, the bombs lost their target and the splinters did not injure anyone.

"When Juga was about to hurl the third bomb at our personnel, our team opened fire at him in self-defence, the bullet hitting him on his right thigh. As the bullet hit him, he immediately fell on the spot," Singh said. The police recovered three live bombs and a mobile phone from him.

A profusely bleeding Juga was then rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

"Juga will also be probed for his involvement in a theft case in Mancheswar police station area," said another police officer.

Juga, 27, had gained notoriety for his involvement in cases of theft, bombing and illegal use of arms.

Another accused in the PCR van bombing case, Uttam Singh alias Kabo, was arrested from Kothapatana in Cuttack on Sunday.
