Jajpur, June 21: The Dharmasala block authorities have swung into action following complaints that some people using fake certificates were drawing benefits under the Madhubabu Pension Yojana (MPY), meant for the physically challenged people.

An inquiry into the matter has been ordered.

“I have received a number of complaints from Thanual Panchayat about some fake beneficiaries. I have ordered an inquiry into the incident. The additional block development officer and the gram panchayat officer of this block have been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit report,” said Madhusudan Das, block development officer of the Dharmasala block.

Once the inquiry report was submitted, necessary action would be taken, he said.

According to sources, the Dharmasala block had recommended 35 names from Thanuala gram panchayat to higher authorities for sanction of their pension in disable category under the Yojana. All the sanction had come for disbursement and the block administration disbursed the amount among the pensioners through concerned panchayat executive officer on Monday. Later, the block administration was informed that 14 out of 35 beneficiaries had taken the pension money by submitting forged certificates.

The fake beneficiaries have taken Rs 2,800 each from the block administration towards their pension for 14 months at the rate of Rs 200 per month. Das said the state government would suffer a loss from its exchequer every month on account of paying pensions to those who were not genuine, if they were not detected.
