Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Friday ordered a probe by the state CID crime branch into the murder of one Prasanna Panda at Machagada und-er Nayagarh police station limits that happened over three years ago. The single-judge bench of Justice Sanju Panda ordered the probe on a petition filed by Namita Panda, the wife of the deceased alleging police inaction in initiating criminal proceedings against the actual murderers. Police had claimed there was no material evidence in support of her allegations. Bhubaneswar: Parents of students at various English medium schools in Rourkela opposed the fee hike on Friday. Parents alleged that school fees were hiked by around 80 per cent. They locked school gates and shouted slogans against the school authorities. Bhubaneswar: An assistant sub-inspector of police allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Nayagarh on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Trinath Dora of Banigochha police station. The reason behind the suicide has not been ascertained. Bhubaneswar: Barbil police on Friday seized pornographic CDs and arrested four persons, following a tip-off. The kingpin of the racket, Sarju Khan, was also arrested. The accused have been identified as Pradip Das, Bikram Das and Dushasan Patra. The four accused have been forwarded to the court. Bhubaneswar: Residents of Balangir, under the banner of Balangir District Action Committee, staged a dharna in front of the collectorate protesting against the irregular supply of electricity and drinking water and the growing garbage problem in the municipality. The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate. Bhubaneswar: One Ranjan Jena, hailing from Baghamari area of Khurda district, was arrested on Friday for allegedly selling his wife to flesh traders in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh. The woman had managed to escape and registered a complaint with State Women Commission. Jena has been forwarded to court. Bhubaneswar: Three members of Orissa Cooperative Housing Corporation Limited Employees Union of Bhubaneswar were arrested on Friday for confining the chairman of the corporation and forging his signature. The accused have been forwarded to the court today. Om Prakash Ray, chairman of the corporation, had lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday against seven persons for allegedly confining him on Tuesday, misbehaving with him and forging his signature to reinstate a suspended employee. The accused were identified as Shashank Shekhar Mohanty, Prasanna Mahalik and Manoranjan Das.
