Bhubaneswar: BJP legislator from Patnagarh and former minister K.V. Singhdeo found himself in the dock on the charges of issuing a false caste certificate. Singhdeo had issued a scheduled tribe certificate to one Abinash Dharua, son of Mahadev Dharua, who belonged to Gond tribe. However, one Govind Meher claimed subsequently that Abinash was his son whom he had bequeathed to Dharua on adoption basis. Meher wanted restoration of original caste of his son. On the basis of Meher's complaint, an FIR was lodged by the officials and a chargesheet was filed against Singhdeo. However, he was not issued any show cause notice. Singhdeo raised the issue in the state Assembly on Friday and sought the protection of the speaker, who assured to examine the matter and convene a meeting soon to resolve the issue. Bhubaneswar: At least 1,304 students were booked on Friday for malpractice during the second day of matriculation examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education. Over 800 students were booked on the first day. Exams are being conducted in as many as 2,261 examination centres across the state. Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a clerk of the directorate of legal metrology while accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 from one Charan Panda for processing his file. The vigilance officials laid trap and caught the clerk Manoranjan Mohanty red handed. He was later forwarded to the court. The officials also raided his office and residence in Unit-VIII area. Bhubaneswar: The city police on Thursday night arrested three robbers near the Gangua bridge while preparing for committing robbery. The Lingaraj police seized two motorcycles and three daggers from them. While these accused were going towards Dhauli on two motorcycles that had no numberplates, the patrolling police arrested them. They were booked under Sections 399 (making preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling for the purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code and were forwarded to the court on Friday. Berhampur: Unidentified persons on Friday hurled a bomb at the Puri bus stand. The bomb was apparently targeted at one of the shops in the bus stand. No one, however, was injured in the incident. The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. An FIR has been lodged and investigation into the case is on, police said. Bhubaneswar: Around 20 youths had attacked a foreign liquor shop owned by Khadala Polai in front of the Belaguntha outpost under Bhanjanagar police station on Thursday. The youths had come on eight motorcycles and a four-wheeler. They initially asked the owner of the liquor shop to serve them liquor. When the shop owner insisted for money, they ransacked the shop. The youths also hurled bombs at the liquor shop. While leaving, they fired in the air to terrorise local people.
