Bhubaneswar, July 23: Capital police today arrested one youth for his involvement in last night’s brawl between two groups at Unit-VI in which two persons sustained injuries.

The police identified the accused as Vikram Keshari Ray of Unit-I.

According to a complaint lodged by Sarthak Pattnaik at Capital police station, Vikram and his three friends were going on two motorcycles when the complainant, Sarthak Pattnaik, and his two friends overtook their vehicles on AG Square-Governor House Road around 11.30pm.

Vikram and his friends allegedly stopped the other group and assaulted them on the road. Both Vikram and Sarthak sustained injuries in the clash.

On being informed, a police patrolling van rushed to the spot and brought the injured to hospital. Later, Sarthak lodged a complaint with the Capital police.

In another development, Vikram alleged that Sarthak’s friends came to Capital Hospital in large numbers and attacked him while he was undergoing treatment there.

An eyewitness said he had seen some 20 youths coming to the hospital around midnight and attacking Vikram, who was undergoing treatment in the emergency ward of Capital Hospital. “The youths even had a scuffle with the security guards and the policemen present there,” said Alok Patra, an eyewitness.

However, the police arrested only Vikram and forwarded him to the court today.

“We have registered a complaint following a complaint from Sarthak and arrested the accused. We are searching for his friends,” said a senior police officer. The officer, however, denied there was any scuffle between the youths and the security men deployed at the hospital.

Firing arrest

In another incident, Laxmi Sagar police arrested one person for his alleged involvement in the Saturday night’s firing incident in front of a bar-cum-restaurant there. The accused was identified as Amit Sahu. He hails from Mahanga area of Cuttack district.

The police arrested Amit from Ranihat in Cuttack. “We have also seized a pistol from his possession,” said a senior police officer of the Laxmi Sagar police station.

Amit was remanded in jail after his bail plea was rejected by a local court here.

The manager of the bar-cum-restaurant, Mrutunjaya Singh, had lodged a complaint alleging that Amit and his friends had a scuffle in front of the restaurant after having their dinner there. Though no one was injured in the shootout, it created fear among local residents.

The police had seized a four-wheeler and some used bullets from the spot.
