Bhubaneswar: Around 50 students of Ravenshaw University on Friday gheraoed Malgodown police station, demanding receipt of a complaint and compensation for a student, who was injured, after a truck ran over his left foot. The student, identified as Mihirkant Rout, was admitted to a private hospital and is likely to undergo a surgery. The incident took place when Rout was coming out from the college campus. Cuttack: The heath services were back on track at SCB Medical College and Hospital here, with the joining of contractual nurses. These nurses had been on a ceasework agitation for the past 11 days, demanding regularisation of their services. Though the nurses appeared at the hospital to join on Thursday, they failed to do so after the authorities asking them to renew their contracts. Balasore: Three people accused of looting money from a lecturer of a private college were arrested on Friday. The accused — Darparanjan Behera, 19, Rajesh Rout, 19 and Himalaya Patra, 20 — were involved in a case in which a gang looted Sukumar Patnaik by terrorising him. Earlier, the mastermind of the loot Tanymay Panda alias Kunu Panda, a sitting councillor of Balasore municipality, was arrested. Jajpur: Two Bol Bom devotees were killed and one other was seriously injured in a road accident in Jajpur on Fiday afternoon. The incident occurred on NH-5 near Orali village when a speeding mini truck hit them from behind while they were headed towards Kapilash. The deceased were identified as Ratnakar Sahu, 30, Sahadev Sahu, 35, of Paridabad village. The driver of the truck escaped from the spot. Bhubaneswar: Goons allegedly looted Rs 6 lakh from the office of a micro-finance company at Salipur. Three employees were also injured in the incident. They have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Police have started an investigation into the matter. BHUBANESWAR: Security has been beefed up at Maoist-infested areas of the state in view of the Martyrs’ week, which will be observed from Saturday. Adequate security forces have been deployed and all the entry and exit points of the Maoist-affected districts have been sealed. The police officers of the concerned districts have been asked to remain on high alert. BHUBANESWAR: A sex racket was busted at a slum near Niladri Vihar in the city on Friday. Three women have also been arrested in this connection. However, the cops failed to arrest any customer and the women have been sent to the hospital for medical examination. BHUBANESWAR: Students of Dr Abhin Chandra Homoeopathic College and Hospital at Kharavela Nagar on Friday threatened the college authorities to take mass college-leaving certificates, demanding revaluation of their answer sheets. arlier, they had ransacked the campus after seven of the students failed to clear the supplementary examinations of first year. However, the authorities said the matter has been conveyed to the higher officials for future action.
