Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old was on Thursday produced in court for allegedly posting nude photographs of a 17-year-old girl by creating a fake Facebook ID.

Police arrested the accused, Amit Jaiswal, from Jharkhand and said he posted the objectionable photographs after the girl's family had turned down his marriage proposal.

The police said the accused, while working in a courier company at Cuttack Road within Lakshmisagar police limits, had developed a relationship with the girl in June. "He later approached the girl's family with a proposal to marry her, but they turned down his proposal after finding him to be an alcoholic and a gambler," said an official.

To take revenge, the accused then created a fake Facebook ID in the name of the girl and posted seven objectionable photographs.

"The girl had come to know about the incident last month and lodged a police complaint. A case was registered at Lakshmisagar police station on November 18. But by that time, the accused had left his job and the state as well," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

A team of police official arrested him from Jharkhand on Tuesday and brought him under transit remand. Sources said the accused was on Thursday sent to Jharapada jail after rejection of his bail plea.

The police said the accused was arrested under several sections of the IT Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

On November 22, the police issued an advisory for the cops as well as the public after more than a dozen cases related to sharing of sex clips and objectionable photographs of girls on social networking sites in various districts had been reported in the past three months. Director-general of police R.P. Sharma had issued a standard operating procedure for taking up investigation in such incidents. The procedure included registration of cases under relevant sections of law, the evidence to the gathered and detailed procedure of investigation.
