Naveen promises land to ICAI

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 5: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today announced land allocation to set up a “Centre of Excellence” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in the capital city.

The chief minister made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony of a two-day conference conducted by the ICAI, Bhubaneswar, at a city hotel. Theme of the eighth edition of the annual conference was Charter of the Chartered Accountants – Independency, Transparency Accountability.

Organised by the continuing professional education committee, the conference is conducted exclusively for the chartered accountants from all over India to increase their professional competence and be adept in their field.

“The proposal of opening a centre of excellence, which will provide on-campus training to the students and professionals and be a centre for research on accountancy and allied aspects, is a welcome initiative,” said Naveen.

This would help in taking advantage of the technological advancements in providing the “Value Added Services” to the corporate world and public at large, he said.

The event is focusing on varied issues such as, corporate frauds and governance learning from the Satyam experience, journey from financial reporting to business reporting, auditing and assurance standards contemporary issues, enterprise risk management and internal audit, showcause notice and adjudication proceedings under service tax, CA practice as an LLP entity, RTI—a tool to good governance and eternal values in a changing society.

The speakers include Nalco chairman-cum-managing director B.L. Bagra, chairman of Deltoitte, India, P.R. Ramesh, global head advisory of KPMG Richard Rekhy, state chief information commissioner Tarun Kanti Mishra, chief information commissioner of India Satyananda Mishra among others.

Finance and public enterprises minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei, too, emphasised the necessity of setting up an institute that can act as a tool for capacity building.

Moreover, ICAI president G. Ramaswamy, CPE committee chairman Sumantra Guha, chairman of Eastern Indian Regional Council Sushil Kumar Goyal, chairman of the organising committee Saroj Kumar Sahu, chairman B. Manoj Kumar Patra and secretary Jotirmoy Pradhan also attended the event.
