Angul, Nov. 24: The Nalco Officers’ Association has urged the company’s management to “immediately attend” to their problems.
The association alleged that the problems were creating deep-rooted resentment among Nalco officers.
The general body meeting of the Nalco Officers’ Association, representing the Nalco smelter and power plant where about 1,100 of the company’s 1,900 executives are deployed, was held on Tuesday to discuss various issues affecting them. In a resolution, the executive body expressed concern over the current crisis shadowing the navaratna company because of coal shortage, lack of proper ash pond and agitation by contractual workers.
The association regretted the fact that “adequate measures were not taken by Nalco in time in terms of requirement of coal, ash disposal and water when it went for doubling its capacity in two expansion projects”. The association also blamed Nalco for its “short-sightedness”.
Association president S.N. Sahu and secretary Bijay Kumar Parida urged Nalco to meet their four major demands without any delay.
“The company does not have any career planning. It has not created vacancies of executive posts even after doubling its production capacity,” said Sahu. “Several discrepancies have crept in because of wrong methods adopted during the last pay revision in 2007,” said Parida.
