Bhubanswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha on May 26 and address a rally in Cuttack.

Modi's visit is being seen as an attempt by the BJP to strengthen its base in the state after it tasted success in the southern state Karnataka and bagged 104 seats as compared to 40 it had won in 2013.

Modi is visiting the state on the occasion of the BJP government's completion of four years in office. The meeting will be organised at the Bali yatra ground on the banks of the Mahanadi in Cuttack.

BJP Odisha-in-charge Arun Singh said: "The Modi sarkar (government) will complete four years on May 26 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to visit the state on the occasion. He will present the list of the government's achievements."

"Modi has a soft corner for the state and he always ranks Odisha above other states. He wants Odisha to march on the path of development like those in west India," he said. Singh also made it clear that the party was still hopeful that under the 120-Plus mission launched by its president Amit Shah, it was confident of bagging 120 seats in the 147-seat Assembly.
