Bhubaneswar, Dec. 5: The office of the regional controller of mines at the Indian Bureau of Mines, Bhubaneswar, today lodged a complaint with Chandrasekharpur police station regarding the missing of the assistant controller of mines, Ibrahim Sharief.

Though Ibrahim’s wife had lodged a complaint with Infocity police station after he went missing on November 25, his office lodged a complaint for the first time today after the officials of the mining bureau headquarters in Nagpur directed the regional office to do the same.

“We have reported that Ibrahim has not attended office since November 25 without proper leave,” said deputy controller of mines L.H Chhangte.

Family members and relatives of the mining engineer, who hails from Bellary in Karnataka, has been visiting all dargahs and are planning to visit Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, the place where the missing engineer’s mobile was last traced a few days ago. “We are helpless and we can only pray that he returns safely. We are also planning to visit Allahabad to trace him,” said Ibrahim’s father-in-law Khasim Peera.

The city police have also sent a police team to Allahabad to find the missing engineer. “We are trying our best to trace the engineer,” said police commissioner R.P. Sharma.

Councillor held

Saheed Nagar police today arrested a councillor of Biju Janata Dal for allegedly abusing a woman.

Ganesh Nayak, the councillor of ward No. 14, which includes areas such as Utkal University, Patharbandh slum and Income Tax Colony, was arrested after an anganwadi supervisor lodged a complaint against him. The complainant had alleged that the councillor had misbehaved with her during a chhatua distribution programme at a school in the councillor’s area.

“Ganesh misbehaved with me while asking why he was not made a part of the programme. Later, he abused me and threatened me,” she alleged. The incident had taken place on November 30 and the woman had lodged a complaint with the police on the same day.

However, Nayak rebuffed the allegations made by the woman saying that he did not misbehave with anyone. “Being the councillor of the area, I only wanted to know that why they have not informed me about the distribution programme,” said Nayak.
