Kendrapara, Oct. 27: A 30-year-old fisherman was grievously injured after a salt-water crocodile attacked him in a creek at Rajapur village in the Rajnagar police station area.
The victim has suffered multiple injuries and is admitted at Kendrapara district headquarters hospital. At present, Biswal is out of danger, hospital sources said.
The mishap took place when the victim, Sridhar Biswal, was fishing in the crocodile-infested water body.
The crocodile, after attacking Biswal, dragged him into the water body.
However, a group of fellow fishermen, who were there at the bathing ghat, raised an alarm and rescued the man.
The man-croc conflicts are on the rise near the national park after the crocodiles had killed a woman and injured at least six persons since the past two months.
The latest crocodile attacks occurred in the month of August when two persons were killed and one was severely injured around the national park.
The state forest department has announced fiscal incentive award on information provided on crocodile intrusion.
The department would also award compensation to the injured person’s family, according to the revised rules, said Kedar Kumar Swain, officer of the Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division.
