Bhubaneswar: Lingaraj Temple authorities on Tuesday lodged a complaint against Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon for allegedly recording a video of herself on a mobile phone on the temple premises on Sunday.
However, the police said that they would not register a case as the complaint did not reveal any cognisable offence.
The management of the 11th century cried foul after a clip of the actress went viral on social media. The temple, a monument protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), has been declared a no-camera zone. Temple officials said barring police personnel and servitors, no one is allowed to take mobiles and cameras inside the temple.
In the complaint, the temple management alleged the actress of entering the shrine with a mobile phone.
"Police and temple personnel have been deployed at the entrance and check visitors to ensure that they do not carry mobile phones and cameras. We have also put up a board to make them aware of the rules. It is not understood how they were able to take the phone into the temple and shoot the video," read the complaint. The temple management also asked the police to seize the mobile phone used for the video shoot.
Lingaraj Temple executive officer Rajib Lochan Parida lodged the complaint. "The incident took place without our knowledge and the sharing of the video in social networking platform have hurt the sentiment of devotees."
However, the police said that the complaint did not reveal any cognisable offence. "Besides, there is no specific Act for the temple, unlike in other temples," said a cop.
