Sambalpur, March 9: The Peoples' Forum for IIM today submitted separate memoranda to both the state and central governments, urging them to finalise the proposal to set up the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) here as early as possible.
A week ago, the state government had sent the proposal to the Centre.
Additional district magistrate Jyoti Kumar Lakra received the memoranda from the members of the forum and assured them of forwarding them to the concerned authority.
The forum members have urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to send a complete proposal to the Union human resource development. It has also requested the Union HRD minister Smriti Zubin Irani to finalise the location of the proposed IIM.
"We want the state government to send a complete proposal, along with the land details, to the Centre for the establishment of the proposed IIM in Sambalpur," said Sapan Mishra, convener of the peoples' forum.
"We are thankful to the state government for strongly recommending Sambalpur to be the location of the proposed IIM," said a forum member.
The memorandum to the state government said the district administration was earlier asked to allocate the proposed sites in Sambalpur. Nildungri and Goshala had also been selected as the proposed IIM locations. Later, the Centre wanted to suggest one more site.
"Since two sites have already been selected, we request the chief minister to ask the district collector to find another site around Sambalpur or Jharsuguda," said Mishra.
On December 22 last year, a delegation of the forum members had met Irani and urged her to consider the establishment of the premier institute in Sambalpur.
"The Union minister had assured us that if the state government recommended Sambalpur, her department would take necessary action to justify it. Since the state has recommended the district to be given the allocation, we are quite hopeful that the IIM will be established here. We want the central government to complete all the exercise by the end of March," said Mishra.
