Bhubaneswar: The works department is facing fresh hurdles in completing its high-rise office-building project - the Nautala - at Unit-V for want of land needed for internal roads and landscaping at the project site.

Most of the civil work, electrical fittings and painting have been completed. However, the department still needs nearly eight acres near the building for internal roads and landscaping work.

In February, the authorities decided to acquire the land by demolishing the consolidation office of police and an information and public relations department kiosk near the project site. However, the drive is yet to take place nearly five months after the announcement.

These hurdles have delayed inauguration of the office, which was supposed be to thrown open in March. The work on the building began in 2016 when government planned to set up a centralised office for government agencies.

"We have requested the home and the information and public relations departments to demolish the structures for the project. After they failed to communicate with us, we decided to approach them again," said a senior works department official.

The officials, besides acquiring the land, will also allot space inside the office to different government agencies. "We have got requests from several departments for spaces. We have made a tentative list and will begin the allotment this month," said the official.

The building will various government offices that functioning from different parts of the city.

"It is one of the better looking buildings. It is a genius plan to create such a central facility, but there has to be efforts to complete it on time," said Aastha Moharana, a resident of Shastri Nagar.
