
Bhubaneswar: Preparation is on in full swing at the Kalinga Sports Complex hockey stadium that will host the Men's Hockey World League final between December 1 and December 10.
Work on an additional stand for the Men's Hockey World Cup scheduled to take place in November next year has already started.
"The construction of pillars for the stand is on in full swing and the pillars will be ready before the world league final. In order to ensure that the main turf remains free from dust, it has been covered. Beautification work will begin in a week or two," said stadium in-charge Barija Mohanty.
Similarly, the practice turf is being cleaned thoroughly before the teams arrive. The parking zones and other areas are being levelled for the tournament.
"This will be second world-class hockey event of hockey to be hosted in Bhubaneswar after the Champions Trophy in 2014. India will be playing against strong opponents in the tournament. But we recently won the Asia Cup and are hopeful of a good run here," said a sports department official.
Sports department officials said the sale of offline tickets for the tournament is expected to begin from Wednesday and a counter would be opened at the stadium for the purpose.
The online sale of tickets began in the second week of September with tickets available at www.ticketgenie.in.
The league matches will be played between December 1 and December 5 with eight participating nations divided into two pools. India will start their campaign on December 1 when they face Australia.
India will play their next two matches against England and Germany on December 2 and December 4, respectively. Twenty-two matches will be played in the tournament.
The police have decided to bring the stadium area under CCTV surveillance.
Twenty platoons of police will be deployed to maintain law and order during the matches and ensure the security of players and officials.
