Berhampur, Feb. 16: Health and cleanliness related issues have become major worrying factors for residents of this city. The posts of food inspector and sanitary inspector are lying vacant at the health and sanitation departments here.
The incumbent in-charge of Khurda, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, is on deputation only once a week.
“Fast food centres and eateries have mushroomed all across the city. So, it has become very important to monitor the quality of food. This has to be done by the food inspector, whose job is a specialised one,” said an official from the health department.
“The filling up of the vacancy has not been possible because the matter is pending in court,” said a senior official of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
“Earlier, there were 10 sanitary inspectors for 37 wards. We require at least 15 sanitary inspectors for smooth functioning,” said a city health officer.
