Paint for the planet

Students used their paintbrushes to shape their concerns for the planet on occasion of the World Earth Day. Organised by Team Basudha, the drawing and painting competition was held at the KIIT International School, Bhubaneswar, on April 20. Selected artworks of the participants from the competition will be showcased at an exhibition will be part of an event titled Basudha — a national-level art and film festival. The festival is conducted every year and themes of the celebration are womanhood, mother earth and Rajo. The event aims to create awareness about arts, visual arts, paintings, photography and film making, said the organisers.

Foundation lecture

SAI International School celebrated its 7th foundation lecture on April 16. The chief guest at the occasion was professor Sushanta Dattagupta, vice-chancellor of Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan. The theme for the foundation lecture was “Thoughts of Tagore”. In his address to the audience, Dattagupta shared his thoughts on establishing institution, developing education and building capacity. Professor Dattagupta also shared with the students the passion of Tagore for education and told them the history of how the Visva Bharati University came into existence.

Graduation day

The Mother’s Public School observed the graduation day for the students moving from the primary level to the middle school level. The class teachers of Class V displayed powerpoint presentations on each child and his assets and spoke about the child’s strengths. The principal of the school awarded the graduation certificate to the students. The teachers passed on candles of knowledge and light to the students hoping that they illuminate their lives and in the world around. The school auditorium resounded with the song Tamso Maa in the background and the children sang the song Aye mere maan depicting hope and optimism.

Soil worry

Students from across various schools stepped out to spread awareness regarding the issues of contaminated soil and ways to save Mother Earth as part of the World Earth Day celebrations initiated by Humara Bachpan, an NGO.

The children surprised onlookers by conducting a flash mob. This was followed by a rally and a signature campaign. About 100 children took part in the event.
