Bhubaneswar, June 9: Girls have outshined their male counterparts in the degree exams of Utkal University, the results of which were published today. Over 25,000 students of 272 colleges under Utkal University had appeared for the exams.
Out of the 23 departments, the girls headed the list in 20 departments. The total pass percentage is 81 for all subjects. The pass percentage for different streams is arts (hons) 90.35, arts (pass) 80.3, commerce (hons) 93.1, commerce (pass) 75.33, science (hons) 77.4, science (pass) 69.
While the results were published at the University examination office today, students can check them online from Friday morning on the following websites: orissaresults.nic.in, exametc.com, innovaindia.com, utkal-university.org, schools9.com. The results can also be checked by text messaging BA3, BSC3, BCOM3 followed by the roll number to 5676750 for arts, science and commerce streams, respectively.
Out of 25,076 students, who appeared for the exams, 4,854 failed to clear the examinations where the results of 158 students were not published due to malpractice.
Sasmita Sahoo of Nimapara College emerged the topper in commerce (hons). Out of the 14 subjects in arts (hons) girls have emerged toppers in 12 subjects. Out of the eight subjects in science (hons) girls have bagged top positions in six subjects. The results of Sailabala Women’s College in Cuttack are outstanding with seven toppers. The toppers include four in arts (hons) and three in science (hons).
Among the various subjects under the science stream, Pragyan Paramita Sahoo of SB Women’s College topped in physics while Millan Sabera of the same college scored the highest marks in chemistry. Sucharita Sarkar of Salipur College bagged the topper position in zoology while Supriya Routray of G Science College emerged topper in botany.
In the arts stream, Choudhury Sasawati Dash and Akhtar Nahid of SB Women’s college secured top positions in economics and English, respectively. Kaminee Barik of Political Science (VN College) and Swarnita Gajendra of Sociology (Rajdhani College) are also among the toppers.
“The results have been better than those of past years. Girls have continued the trend of outshining in most subjects like last year,” said Bimal Chandra Mishra, examination controller, Utkal University. “The marksheets will be available from June 20 in the respective colleges,” he added.
