Bhubaneswar, May 2: Mother's Day was due in a week, but singer Adyasha Das couldn't have waited.
Adyasha has compiled a music album where she has given voice to songs written by her mother and popular writer Pratibha Ray. It was a gift the daughter wanted to gift the person she has hero-worshipped her whole life.
The album titled Padma Patrare Jibana has eight songs and all of them are reflections of Pratibha's life experiences taken from her autobiography by the same name.
Adyasha admits to have been immensely influenced by the literary career of her mother.
"She has helped me understand the creative pursuits in me. There has been a literary ambience at home since my childhood, and I have always been inspired by her perseverance," she said.
The album was released here on April 30 in presence of personalities from the musical and literary world. It was an endeavour by cultural organisation - Raaga - as part of their attempts to preserve and promote culture and build a bridge between literature and music.
Singer Pranab Patnaik and Archana Nayak released the album and spoke about the relationship that the writer-singer duo shares.
Popular musician Om Prakash Mohanty has composed the music for the songs. At the launch, Adyasha sang a few numbers from the album such as Prema eka eka, and Basanta ferijiba pare.
Speaking about how Ray instilled an interest of reading in her, the singer said: "Ma used to gift us books on various occasions such as birthdays and summer and winter vacations. She used to read out portions of her short stories or novels in course of writing and as I grew up I started doing the same," said Adyasha, an alumnus of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.
For Ray, the moment was quite emotional. "I never thought that my autobiography would come out in the form of music someday. What has made it more special is the fact that the songs have been sung by my daughter with whom I share a great bond," she said.
Asked about the person she hero-worships, Adyasha said her all-time hero would always remain her mother. "Apart from a writer, a creator as well as a teacher, the most important role that she has played is that of a mother. Looking back, I wonder how beautifully she managed them all," said Adyasha.
