Fly over, but which way to go - The flyovers at Fire station, CRP Square, Nayapalli, Acharya Vihar and Vani Vihar are creating confusion among people who wish to go to places in between. As there are no signboards indicating that the flyovers can take people only from one end to the other, motorists are frequently getting confused about directions. Authorities said they would put up the signboards after underpass constructions at all these overbridges are over. The Telegraph takes a look at some of these spots

Baramunda

Near Biju Patnaik Field (towards Khandagiri)

Commuters coming from the Vani Vihar-side face trouble at Baramunda near Biju Patnaik Field as they do not know how to cross the road. Though there is a passage under the flyover near the bus stand, there is no signage. Motorists, therefore, often travel up to Khandagiri Square to cross the median

Baramunda

Ruchika market side (towards Fire Station)

Motorists coming from Khandagiri would get confused as there are no signboards put up at the starting point of the bridge over Fire Station. It starts from the Ruchika market-end. Residents of Pragyan Vihar, Ruchika and Baramunda Housing Board Colony often tend to jaywalk to cross the road

Nayapalli

Behera Sahi Square (towards CRP Square)

After the overbridges at Nayapalli, CRP Square and Fire Station Square became operational, commuters face problem to identify the spot to cross the road at Nayapalli and go towards Indradhanu market. There is a passage for vehicles and pedestrians at Indradhanu Market Square under the bridge, but no signboard

Jaydev Vihar

Towards Acharya Vihar

Here authorities have been changing directions for the past few years. Earlier, they used to force the Vani Vihar-bound vehicles to use the service road and some way on Vidyut Marg before crossing the median in front of Pal Heights. Later, the road divider was cut under the Jaydev Vihar overbridge to allow vehicles to go straight to Acharya Vihar through the service road. However, the divider cut was again closed

Acharya Vihar

In front of IMMT gate (towards Vani Vihar)

This passage was opened to allow vehicles coming on the bridge over Jaydev Vihar to use the service road to reach Acharya Vihar and Vani Vihar Square. Vehicles have to use the narrow passage to ride on to the flyover

Acharya Vihar

Pani Tanki Square (towards Nayapalli)

Vehicles coming from Acharya Vihar Square use the passage to go on Jaydev Vihar bridge. But, commuters coming through the bridges over Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar use it to go towards Jaydev Vihar Square through the service road on the left side

Satsang Vihar

Vani Vihar Station Square (towards Vani Vihar)

Here the Vani Vihar flyover starts. It’s an accident-prone zone as motorists do not know which route to follow to go towards Acharya Vihar or Jaydev Vihar Square. Taking the flyover at this point merely adds to the commuters’ inconvenience. There is no signboard

Chaotic journey

This new flyover system has been very confusing, as we cannot understand where to go and how to cross the NH. Newcomers to the city face a lot of problem

Smita Maity, a student

The signboards are very much required. We have no idea how to cross the NH if we take the flyovers to reach a place without wasting time at traffic posts

Anupam Rout

Solution sought

We have been getting complaints from people about their confusion and traffic chaos. There was meeting held among concerned agencies today where the issue of putting signboards was raised and the National Highways Authority of India has assured us of taking steps in this regard after the construction gets over
