Bhubaneswar, Aug. 18: Palazzos or jeggings? Aviators or wayfarers?
Fashionistas in the city, who depend on glamour magazines and ramp shows for style cues, need not look any further than “Who Wears What When They Go Where”.
This group on Facebook, created by some students of the government-run College of Engineering and Technology (CET) here, offers easy-to-follow fashion tips and tricks for Gen-Y.
Sunayana Chanduka, a student of fashion and apparel technology at CET, who first floated the idea of starting the online group, said the objective was to connect with fashion-conscious youths and help them infuse new life into their old wardrobes.

From mix-and-match trends to make-up tips and lessons in tying a necktie, the forum primarily focuses on women’s fashion, but will soon cater to men, too.
“We do a lot of research on the fashion and apparel industry as part of our studies which enable us to predict trends. So we thought of sharing our ideas with the rest of the world and offer advice about dressing up and styling. Our faculty member, Sushree Kar, supported the idea and that is how we started the group on Facebook,” said Sunayana, a final-year student.
The group is also promoting Odisha’s fabrics as well as traditional artforms, including tribal art and appliqué work of Pipili, by integrating them with fashionable outfits and accessories.
“Sambalpuri handloom is world famous and so is pattachitra. These have a lot of potential in today’s fashion world. By reviving traditional designs in handicrafts and handlooms, we can promote local weavers too,” she said.
Her classmate, Pritam Nayak, said they have plans to involve top-notch fashion designers, who can help youngsters make better fashion-related choices and enhance their look by sharing their ideas on current trends.
“We are in touch with Pritam Panda, who has dressed Bollywood actresses and several international models,” he said.
Panda lauded the students’ initiative to reach out to fashion conscious in the city and beyond.
“Youths in Odisha do not have a great fashion sense. Even though trendy clothing is now available at the click of the mouse, they don’t have anyone to guide them regarding what to wear. But if these college students market themselves well, we will probably see a fashion revolution in Odisha,” said the 30-year-old globe-trotting designer from Balasore whose label caters exclusively to high-end designer stores in different parts of India and foreign countries.
Among other final-year students, who regularly contribute their designs to the group, are Shilpa Dash, Karishma Biswal and Arpita Tripathy.
