Sambalpur, Feb. 7: Police have launched an awareness drive to remove dark films from four-wheeler windows.

“We have launched the drive in compliance with a Supreme Court directive. We are now making people aware about the apex court’s ruling. The people, who have vehicles with tinted glass, are being requested to remove the films,” said Sambalpur police chief Nikhil Kanodia.

“The next step will be penalising the people, who would be found violating the norms,” he said.

The Supreme Court’s directive specifies the visibility level of the glasses. The transparency of front and rear window screens should be 70 per cent while that of side window glasses have to be a minimum of 50 per cent, said the district police chief.

Sambalpur traffic in-charge B.B. Naik said: “Some vehicle-owners have already started removing black films from their vehicles. If all car owners do not remove the films, we will remove them ourselves. We will start that drive very soon.”

“I was not aware of the ban on the use of black films on four-wheeler windows. I immediately removed the black films from the glasses of my vehicle when I became aware of it,” said Sushanta Sahu, a cab owner.
