Cuttack,/Bhubaneswar, Oct. 3: Police have decided to come up with the state’s first advanced DNA lab in Bhubaneswar to boost its infrastructure for advanced investigations.
“We are giving stress on intelligence collection and establishment of the state’s first DNA lab with fingerprint and diagnostics facilities,” said director general of police Prakash Mishra.
While addressing the media during the 61st State Police Duty Meet today in Cuttack, Mishra further said: “An advanced DNA lab will come into existence with assistance from the Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar. Such a facility will assist state police to track and solve various complicated crime cases,” said Mishra.
He said the DNA lab was likely to be opened by next year.
A senior official said that they have also sought the help of the experts of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad for this purpose.
“Odisha police is lagging behind in advanced investigation procedures. We are taking measures to improve the skills of officers, while various new subjects are also being introduced, including CDR analysis, for effective investigation,” Mishra added.
