Cuttack, July 28: Orissa High Court today declared Sukanti Subudhi disqualified as a councillor of the municipal corporation.

The high court ordered termination of Subudhís election and directed holding of fresh election to ward No. 18.

The invalidation order was issued on a petition filed by Punam Parida, the BJD candidate who had lost to Sukanti, an Independent candidate in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls in 2014.

"Justice Biswanath Rath issued the disqualification order on account of wrong identity in the certificate submitted as proof of ability to write Odia along with her nomination papers," Satya Ranjan Pati, the counsel appearing for Sukanti, said today.

The high court found discrepancy in the name mentioned in the school leaving certificate and her name in the nomination papers.

Sukanti had submitted a school-leaving certificate from S.N. High School at Patia in Bhubaneswar along with her nomination papers as proof of her writing ability in Odia. The school-leaving certificate was issued on May 31, 1988, in the name of one Dhadi Jena, daughter of Panu Jena who had passed Class IX.

But her nomination papers mentioned Sukanti Subudhi, wife of Gauranga Subudhi of Pandra in Pancheswar police limits. But her father's name was mentioned as Pranabandhu Jena and 1998 as year of school leaving.

"The court took serious note of the inconsistency in the date of issue of certificate attached as proof of ability to write Odia as sufficient reason to disqualify her from continuing as councillor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation," Pati said.
